I would tell SS that the Army is still hiring and take him down to the recruiting station.

My SS did that until he got kicked out of both his mothers and our house. He found a job within a day or two of being sent out on his own. As long as they can get away with not having consequences and have their every need and want met they have no incentive to get a job, I even told my own daughter NO at one time she found a job within weeks

At the last moment, mine got jobs and signed up for community college... and the other actually started attending high school again. I'm very disappointed about this.
On the other hand, I've had military recruiters calling, and I've offered a Eurorail pass.
DH just laughs and says... 'rat's, foiled again'...

Armed services no longer want deadbeat/outcast/lazy adult children. They've gone technical and won't take anyone with GEDs anymore.

Anyone with a GED spells L-A-Z-Y and school skipper nowadays. It used to be a program for those who were drafted or worked on the farm and were physically unable to attend highschool.

Sorry I did not see where OP mentioned SS didn't have a diploma.

My SD30 has a bachelor's degree, no job, 3 kids and sucks from the teat of society with her DH, also 30 with no job as well. They have borrowed from all family members who have two dimes to rub together. Apparently, the current concensus, is that it is my turn to step up and pay the bills.... Uh.... No.... LOL
