borderline personality disorder

All this time it has been my fault my sd14 acts the way she does. DH has only started believing me this last year about his daughters actions. When she was living with his mom and decided to steal a boys backpack and wear all of the clothes including shoes and got suspended from school. Not that she has been kicked out of my home, grandma's home, aunts home and is now living in a theraputic home, we might be close to getting some answers but its scary for a 14 year old to have adult diagnosis. started with bipolar and adhd four years ago but we were told yesterday there is a good posibility that she has borderline personality disorder and that the main thing for her is thereapy which she will not participate in. and that is why she goes off on her if we says she beautiful or smart. i had her brothers color her pictures and she blew up on me and didn't want me to subject them to her. I guess i'm having a hard time wraping my head around all these terms...mainly because im step mom and most of her tantrums are pointed at me.

You are such a brave soul, Justanotherday. Thank you for sharing your story.
When i was little, i also had anxiety attacks and no adults who understood what was happening with me.
I developed some OCD tendencies, not too obvious, to help me deal.
So glad to hear you have made a good life for yourself. Your DH sounds wonderful!
Your example gives hope to others.

one thing i see with her is she is unable to keep any relationship. she likes the "bad" group and she might fit in one moment but not the next. I struggle with "knowing" her because it changes so quickly. I pray just pray that one day she will use the therapy that shes in and it seems a simple task is a HUGE task. It sucks thats all I know. I've told my hubby since the moment i met him she needs help. Shes been abandoned by her low life BM. and that only adds a ton to her anxiety. she would rather see me leave so she can laugh in her own face...

Usually, at 14 doctors wil lnot make the official dx of BPD, just say there are traits of it.
However, it is a difficult disorder to be around, and i feel for you, JS. In my life, BM is NPB/BPD - which is no picnic either. Too bad your SD is refusing to make good use of therapy. Is the therapist using DBT? Does s/he have experience with BPD?

she has no experience. she is currently reading some books to try to help. Wish she wasn't in a theraputic home but she can't come home till it gets a little better.
