Missing Pregnant Marine
Ok.. Not sure if anyone else caught this..
Everyone is talking about this girl missing. I have been watching it since it first came up how her mom had talked to her on Dec. 14th.. and how the mom hadnt heard from her since.. and called and reported her missing.
Fastforward to last night when Nancy Grace reported how the STEP MOTHER has stated the girl was Biopolar and a compulsive Liar.. As a SM I was like.. OUCH!! that isnt going to go over well w/the mom that reported the girl missing.. then I realized.. the mom that reported her missing.. and the step mom are the SAME PERSON..
so.. here is what I take issue with. They had referred to her as mom up until she said something about the girl that wasnt all sunshine and roses.
Did anybody else catch this?? or think that no matter what you do or say as a step mom.. your going to look bad.

Some Sad News
I just read after I finished posting this blog.. that they found the marine dead and in a shallow grave. That her superior is missing and a suspect.
I just feel bad for this girl and her baby.. And I feel bad for the SM that she was just the SM after letting the appropriate authorities know the girl's issues in hopes it would help them find her.
On Nancy Grace.. They announced that the leading cause of death in pregnant women is murder.. I had heard that before.. when Laci Peterson went missing, and then again w/Lori Hacking... I just wish it wasnt the case... Very sad
Marine
I thought it was pretty bad for SM to bash the girl publicly. Its one thing to go on a forum and dump the opinions, but to go on national news that was too much for me. Now that she and her baby are dead the SM can deal with that the rest of her life.
The SM wasnt bashing her on
The SM wasnt bashing her on National news.. the SM reported to the authorities in NC that her SD was bipolar and a compulsive liar. She was hoping this would help them find her... ALIVE.. I dont think she mentioned those items to be malicious.. this is the SAME woman that reported her missing. She was just giving information that could help them understand this girls' state of mind.
The news media got that information when they requested the records.. they are the ones "bashing" by devulging that information reported to the authorities....
I dont think the SM meant anything by it other than please help this girl. The Military records also stated that she was a compulsive liar.. so why is that ok??
I agree
I think that she was stating facts about her sd to help authorities gain ground on searching for her. You don't know if she just fled or if in fact she was taken by someone. Last month I read in a news paper and woman who fled her marriage, staged everything as if she were kidnapped, authorities searched for her costing tax payers $250k, when in fact she just took off. When she realized how people were searching for her, she finally came forward. She was in an arranged marriage and was not happy. Thankfully she is alive and well, but to share information about a person's mental state and character issues isn't malicious. I perceived the sm as trying to help authorities do their best in searching for someone. I really love my ss, I treat him as IF HE IS MY SON, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have character issues. I know this, but I still love him and that doesn't make me a bad sm.
It's a very sad case, and I am truly sorry that her life was taken. Her poor baby died too. It's just heartbreaking.
I found this on yahoo. This I believe is the most recent article

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - A pregnant Marine missing for nearly a month is dead, and investigators were seeking a fellow Marine she had accused of sexually assaulting her, authorities said Friday.
Authorities had not recovered the body of 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Maria Frances Lauterbach, but they believed she was buried in a shallow grave in a residential area of coastal Onslow County, Sheriff Ed Brown said.
The suspect, 21-year-old Cpl. Cesar Armando Lauren, has declined to meet with investigators and is not in custody, he said.
"They don't know where he is," Brown said of the suspect. "He's gone."
Lauterbach had claimed a superior had sexually assaulted her, and she was worried that the investigation was going nowhere, according to court documents. She vanished last month before she was to testify in a military probe.
Naval investigators said Friday the military was pursuing rape charges against Lauren, and had planned to hold a hearing in December.
The court papers said the anticipated birth of the baby "might provide evidentiary credence to charges she lodged with military authorities that she was sexually assaulted by a senior military person."
Brown said Lauren refused to speak with detectives, on the advice of his attorneys. Authorities said they didn't consider Lauren a flight risk until Friday, because they had information the pair carried on a "friendly relationship" after she reported the assault to military authorities.
The State Bureau of Investigation and the Marine Corps were assisting in the search for Lauren, who had not been charged with Lauterbach's death.
Lauterbach, originally from Dayton, Ohio, was reported missing Dec. 19 by her mother, who last spoke with her daughter on Dec. 14, authorities said. Her cell phone was found Dec. 20 near the main gate at Camp Lejeune, and she missed a scheduled Dec. 26 prenatal care appointment.
Authorities found her vehicle at a bus station near the base on the Atlantic coast, and an employee there has told investigators it has been there since about the time of her disappearance. Brown said Friday she had purchased a bus ticket to El Paso, Texas, the day after she spoke with her stepmother, but the ticket has not been used.
(This version corrects that information came from woman's mother, not her stepmother.)

I have not read the military records so I cant comment on that. I did see the SM on the news making negative comments on her SD. If a person goes on national news telling people that someone is bi-polar and a liar I think they mean something by it. If the kd were alive I would say, sue, sue, sue. She did not know the kds were dead when she told that.
Actually.. turns out they
Actually.. turns out they are one in the same. Not sure where her BM is.. but the woman.. Mary is her SM. It was also reported by the roommate that the marine had had a call w/her SM on Dec 14th and that is when the girl left.
Some media is making the distinction.. and some have not.
I think she was hoping that
I think she was hoping that similiar to the run away bride.. that this girl had left on her own and was just running away from her problems and life.. that she was alive somewhere.. and if she gave the authorities and people looking for her the complete mental history on this kid they could bring her home safely.
Now.. in order to sue sue sue.. the SM would have had to slandered her.. it its true. then its not considered slander and therefore would have no case.
If my SD was missing and I thought I had information that would help bring her home alive and safe.. I would have no problem letting the world know EVERYTHING.. Why hide something from the authorities and people looking for this kid that could hinder the investigation.
I was originally just commenting on how when she reported her missing she was named as a concerned mom, yet when she gave a full mental picture of the kid her title went to Step MOM... That is all..
yeah I dont know.. I just
yeah I dont know.. I just saw that on Yahoo and copied and pasted it. I also saw a little clip and the woman that was talking didnt say anything bad.. that could have been her real mom.. Im totally confused.. All I know is that its a really sad situation all around. I hope the iron this thing out, and find the person that did this.
They know who did it.. now
They know who did it.. now they just have to find him. he took off at 430 am today..
so terrible
I performed in the Until the Violence Stops Festival in NE Ohio this past June. I live in the same city as Jesse Davis, actually not far from her home. For those of you that are unfamiliar with that one, get ready to see a ton about it on the news, because Davis's killer, exBF and ex police officer Bobbie Cutts goes on trial shortly.
Davis was nine months pregnant when Cutts killed her and he and his friend (a woman) hid Davis's body for a week before disclosing the location to the police. Jesse's mom was worried when she didn't drop off her and Cutts's two year old son the next morning before work. She went to the home and found the toddler running around with a full diaper, presumeably alone for 24 -48 hours. He was telling his grandma over and over, "Mama fall down...mama in the rug," or something like that.
They discovered her body an hour before our performance. Our MC for the event was 7 months pregnant herself and had to make the announcement to our audience.
The thought of it makes me cringe. Not only to kill her, but to hide the body? To not try to save your own infant? To leave your two year old son running around at home alone for days?
Peace, love, and red wine
Scary...
The area where they're looking... I used to drive through there all the time when we lived in Jax. Scary.

Sad
I knew somehow when they said she was supposed to testify, that was why and who did it, just like a mafia hit or something. Both so young to ruin and end their lives like that, plus baby, of course not her fault.
I think the stepmom did the right thing but of course will be vilified as not the 'real' mom, like we always are, oh well.

The whole thing is sad.
I would say that the info that stepmom provided probably wasn't going to help with the investigation. My take is that the mom or stepmom, whoever she is, probably didn't think that anything happened to the girl or that her story about rape was true. I guess now she, and the world knows, that although this girl may well be bipolar and and liar, in this case she was totally honest. Perhaps someone could have listened sooner...
