UPDATE to OT Sharing your wisdom

Well the wedding was just beautiful at sunset on the river.

I had the ages of the kids wrong.  SD7 and SS4

SS4 from what we can gather is on the autistic spectrum with maybe a side of tourettes.  The things that came out of the little boys mouth would send my mother in a tizzy.  He was picking up rocks and throwing them at us during the ceremony.

She was so graceful and just kept showing him love and patience. Her new DH would just run the other way.

I told her to read the letter in private and to let me know if she needed anything.  She has a long road ahead of her, but she was so happy Smile

Oh God. What wisdom the years of experience have brought me. I hope for her sake I am wrong, but I too would be running the other way.

Phew... Being a stepmom to an autistic kid is no walk in the park. I got lucky and came in during teenage years. He had already had YEARS of ABA therapy and is a kid who will work hard and try. Not saying it goes well all the time, because that is SO FAR from the truth, but we make things work.

She does have a long road ahead of her. Her husband better start stepping up!

I see a loooong hard road ahead!

when someone marries an idiot parent who runs from their own ill behaved children..... at the ceremony.  That his child, that he ran from,  is special needs, makes the groom that much more detestable.

My condolences to your SD on her choice of mates.

Tough road ahead.

Was the boy diagnosed or it just looks like he might have autism? Some kids with autism have tics that appear like Tourette's. Heck many people have tics that are confusing.  Tourette's is hard to diagnose because it's only diagnosed when everything else is ruled out and much observation is needed. Not at 4.

Other than that it's rough for a new SM. She must really love the guy.

This does not bode well.
