First day of Summer Day Camp for BD11 and SD8 together and SD8 tells them she is a different name????
Ok so my BD11 has gone to this awesome day sports camp for the last few summers and so this summer for the every other week SD8 is here she will go to the same camp. They are in different groups due to their ages so at least they won't get on each other's nerves. So SD8's name is let's say " Mary Margaret" and goes by Margaret her whole entire life, that is how I filled out all her paperwork, etc... So I show up to get the girls and I ask for my daughter and Margaret X and they have no idea who I am talking about. I'm like what do you mean? I showed them which room she was dropped off in and they said OH you mean Mary. I was like um no, she goes by Margaret and has her whole life. Apparently the whole day she referred to herself as Mary all day. That seems very strange to me since she is only 8???? What are your thoughts?

Obviously, my name is
Obviously, my name is Melissa, but when I was a kid, I wanted it to be Nikki. (I am total not the Nikki type, and would of done better with a name like "Maude"!) Anyway, it must of resonated with my SIL (who was my BFF during my childhood), who named her oldest Nicole!
I have renamed SDs (who are 12 and 15) with pet names. For SD12 it is Mae, and SD15 is "Awesome". I am the only one who calls them this, however, they'd like to get their names legally changed!
At that age, I wanted to
At that age, I wanted to change both my first and last name to something that isn't even close to my real name. I practiced writing it all the time.
My DS12 started going by his
My DS12 started going by his full name, Daniel. No one has ever called him that. Kids are strange. Some one probably told her they liked Mary it was pretty or something.
When my BS was around 8, he
When my BS was around 8, he decided to change his name to Scott. As in, Scott from the X-Men (Cyclops). I was at the bus stop and I heard the bus driver say "Scott, let's go buddy, your mom is here." I looked around and saw I was the only person standing there. I said 'You're calling the wrong kid, my son's name is XYZ." She looked at me, looked at him and said "I thought you said your name was Scott?"
LMFAO!!!!!
Ok then I guess maybe she was
Ok then I guess maybe she was just reinventing herself a little for her first summer at camp. I think both her first and middle name are pretty and I don't mind whatever she wants to go by but when they didn't know who I was talking about and I found out she had gone by her other name all day I was worried. Thanks to everyone!
Oh boy... Summer Camp
Oh boy...
Summer Camp Flashback.
I was the swimming intructor.
Me: "Okay, I am going to call out your names, so when I call them, comes stand by me over here. If I don't call your name, don't panic, just stay seated and I will take care of you. Okay then? First name; Johnathan...Johnathan? Is there a Johnathan here?"
*crickets*
Me: "Okay...How about William....William? Is there a William present?"
*crickets*
Me: "Alrighty, how about Thomas? Is there a Thomas in the house?"
*crickets*
Me: "Hmmm, I wonder if I have the right list. What is your name?"
Kid: "John!"
Me: "Ah! And what about you?"
Next Kid: "Bill!"
Me: *smacks forehead* "Let me guess....You must be Tom?"
Last kid: "Whoa! How'd you guess!?"
My given name is Margaret and
My given name is Margaret and if that is her name, I can understand wanting to be called something else. I think around the same age I wanted to be called Elisabeth or Beth, my middle name or Donna, the cool teenager that watched us occasionally. I know my parents named me for important people in their lives but how does one look at a baby and hang "Margaret Elisabeth" on something so small?? Most Margaret's are in their 60s. The nickname they gave me rhymed with my brother's nickname....how embarrassing!!
I've grown into my name, your SD will also. I go by a nickname I got in high school now.
