I am not in the mood! I have tried for many years to do so, and I am through! They are both too self-centered for me to care about.
I had an interesting conversation with a college professor friend of mine tonight. He has taught Journalism at the local University for 30 years. He says that the last THREE generations have minds of mush! They think that "critical thinking" depends on how they FEEL. :O
When you are trying to "reason" with skids that are always coming from this infantile frame reference....logic doesn't work. At this point, I don't CARE how they FEEL!

Yesterday someone responded to a poster with the same "look at it from the kid's side" advice. The poster had been called a bitch after refusing to drive the teenage skid somewhere. I find it very hard to believe that, even looking at it from the skid's side, it would make the poster think, "ZOMG, you are SO right!! What was I thinking?!?! Next time the Precious demands something of me via text, I'll TOTALLY give her a ride!! Thank you THANK you for setting me straight!!"
I've looked at things from SD26's side. I've decided she's happy with being a Twit, and is determined to live her life in Happy Twit Land.

I completely agree! When countries fail, one of the first things to go is the educational system. I worked for a school for about 5 years. There ARE good, smart kids out there who try hard and are determined to do well but there are a heck of a lot of them who do not have a realistic view of life as an adult. I ran into so many of them who had dropped out of school, then were shocked to find they were suddenly on their own with scant resources. One thing I would like to see a change in is less emphasis on self-esteem and more time given to education they can use on a real job, personal responsibilities and respect for others. I also agree with you about the 'dumming down' of America. Just take a look at what is broadcasted on our television now. I can remember when there was real history on the History Channel. Now it's a bunch of reality programs about aligator wrestlers and toothless loggers. The Discovery Channel offered 'discovery' of all sorts of subjects to educate. Now it's about the sexual lives of housewives and 'making over' an ordinary looking person. It is so sad when I see young children trying to imitate some bimbo on TV instead of talking like a real child. OK, off the soap box! Sorry!

I am sure all of us have had to do this so many times. I started out thinking "look at it from their POV". They have a Bipolar lunatic BM and Dad is not hearing them or talking to them in a manner they can understand well... lesson learned. I am so done! I am throwing in the towel. If they want to talk, I am here. Other than that I have checked out emotionally which is NOT easy for me but I need my sanity and my DD needs me. I can actually talk to my DD and she hears me or at least pretends to LOL.
