If you wonder what it takes to lose custody...

onthefence2's picture

it all depends. If you are a bio-parent wanting to provide a better situation for your child, it's an uphill battle. But if it's the government, it takes ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to take a child into custody. My head is about to explode. If your husband is having trouble with getting anywhere in court, have him take this story into the courtroom with him.

There will definitely be more to the story. No question. Arkansas is hardly a bastion of Nazi children-for-the-state bureaucrats. Could easily be the two older kids actually turned their parents in for something now that they are out in the real world and have reached adult status.

Follow the story. If you don't believe this is happening, your head is stuck in the sand. I remember of 3 stories just in the past year. And these "whack-a-doo religious nutjobs" live in a country where we are supposed to have the freedom to make choices and decisions for our own families and children. Most educated people know that conventional treatment harms and kills exponentially more often than natural remedies. But you can believe whatever you want. Because it's a free country.

Parents are free to raise their children as they see fit. They are not free to endanger their children.

With freedom comes responsibility.

Now for the facts. Actaully most educated people know that the facts prove that modern medical techniques and treatments are far more effective than non medical remedies. Take antibiotics for example. The survival rate of battlefield injuries went through the roof when antibiotics were developed and death due to wound infection was significantly reduced. Just one example out of countless thousands.

Smallpox, virtually eliminated by vaccine. Polio, wiped out due to modern medicine. T-1 diabetes is now nothing more than a nusance due to modern medicine and is completely survivable for a life time if the diabetic utilizes the tools available and manages their disease. I know, I have been a T-1 diabetic for nearly my entire life. If I had been born 50 years earlier I would not have survived more than 6-9mos post Dx.

I fully support and agree that parents should be able to raise their children without government interferance. However, that does not include the right to endanger their children by being idiots.

I recall this debate in my college freshman english class when the car seat law went into effect. There was a moron in the class arguing that he had the right to not put his kid in a car seat if she so decided. Actually at that time he did not have that right because the law said he did not have that right.

Parents have every right to raise their children as the see fit, in any church they choose, etc... Parents do not have the right to endanger their kids however.
