Catching Flies with Honey: DH "Earns" Some Lovin
We picked up SS13 from his EOWE visit with his BM. We have been working very dilligently with SS to get caught up on missing work, staying on top of his homework and doing extra work to help him raise his skill level to grade level. End of the trimeseter was this week and I got an email from his teacher stating that ALL missing work was completed.
This was great news. He had been stripped of most all priveleges: electronics, clubs at school, even karate. Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for this week.
Anyway, DH reminded SS13 to do his daily math exercises while he was at his mom's. SS told us that he completed them on the car ride home. DH let SS watch TV last night, which effectively ended the "punishment" period.
When we were alone in our room, I flew off the handle a bit stating that if he wanted to make his own decisions and manage SS's schooling on his own (as I had offered previously), then by all means, let me know as I have LOTS of other things that I could be spending my time on. I mentioned that he didn't event check his work - just 7 days after he lied to us about having no work due when he had a project due the next day that he hand't even started - plus more missing work. I felt like he was sending the wrong message after SO much effort had been put into this for the past 7 days.
I was in one of my standard pregnancy-induced rants, plus I was tired, which made it even worse, LOL.
Fortunately, DH said, "You're right" and he got out of bed and got dressed. I smiled really big and told him how much I loved him and that he was a good dad - such a good dad that I was going to give him some "special" lovin when he was all done.
He was of course, all smiles when he left the room. He asked SS to pull out the work and show him what he did. Then they turned off the TV, redid some of the work and spent about 30 minutes talking and reviewing.
Anyway, all went to bed happy last night: me for having a DH that didn't just let things slide, SS for getting some one on one time with dad and DH (of course) for recieving his good-daddy-award. LOL.
