O/t not decorate b/c of an animal??
I for LOVE my pets and take good care of them but why would I NOT decorate just b/c my cat would get in the tree?? I just can't imagine not putting up all my xmas decorations just b/c of a pet? I can't imagine telling my kids that sorry sweetie but we will not make the house like xmas b/c the cat will get in it.
I will not disappoint my child like that. I am dumbfounded when I hear this. Make the pet mind or put it in another room something but don't disappoint your child b/c you are lazy and don;t want to deal with your pet!
Sorry had to get that out there b/c I was talking to my dd that said her friends parents do that and have done that b/c of their cats! :jawdrop:
I was jsut floored that their kids have NEVER had a tree or anything b/c of the parents cats!

My dogs go after the ball
My dogs go after the ball shaped ornaments...that does not mean that I don't put a tree up. That seems really stupid!
Maybe there are other reasons for not putting up a tree...during my childhood, there were a few Christmas's that we didn't have a tree due to finances...but who knows.
It's very odd either way.

Nope she came right out and said b/c her cats will get in it. I was so sad for the kids. I have 2 cats btw and I make sure they stay out of it. yes it takes a little work but now that they are older they don't mess with it. It is only when they are kittens really. Even my neighbor that have like 20 cats has a little tree and she decorates her house.
So me thinks she is too lazy!
The only thing I don't put up
The only thing I don't put up is tinsel so my cat doesn't eat it. But other than that I make the cat mind and I just go nuts and decorate EVERYTHING! hehehe
I don;t put up tinsel either.
I don;t put up tinsel either. I even pout up a baby gate around my tree one year b/c my puppy like to use under the tree for her bathroom. lol But I put up a tree and decorated my house! I just made accommodations as needed! A little more work yes but I couldn;t look at my kids and say "sorry no tree or anything b/c of said pet!"

My kitten has attacked my tree many times, my tree looks pretty much like a goat decorated it but I still put my tree up and decorate!
Funny story, tonight we were going out to the mall, BD8 was at a friends house around the corner. SO ran in to get her and he noticed a very pretty decorated Xmas tree, he commented on how beautiful it was and asked if they were excited for Christmas and what their plans were, the mother says, well it's not going to be very good, we don't celebrate Christmas. SO felt like such a fool but I said how were you to know? They have a tree up and stuff, he's like yeah but what do you say to something like that, he just thought insert foot to mouth and shut up. LMAO, they are Muslim, so I guess that's why?
hahahaha
hahahaha
But why would they have a
But why would they have a tree up? If you ask me they walked right in to that one!
That's what I thought too!
That's what I thought too! Another funny thing that happened earlier this week, a friend of mine who is JW was at another friends door who is also JW although they do not celebrate Xmas and the woman's door she knocked on follows the religion hard core, anyways I was walking by and she holds up her glass and waves to me then cheerfully says rather loudly Merry Christmas! Right as the other one was opening the door, I was thinking oh gosh dude you are in for it now. lol
We have skipped the tree a
We have skipped the tree a few times after experiencing cat disaster. Our cat passed 2 years ago, so we started putting one up again. 4 days ago we came home to gifts, chunks of boxes & paper scattered across the living room floor, so as long as we have dogs, we won't have gifts under the tree.
Just because we didn't have a tree those years didn't ruin Christmas for us. There were garlands strung & stockings were hung. We had lights on the house, etc.
I'll admit, I've had years I just didn't feel like hauling all the crap out of the attic/out-building knowing I'd just be packing it up & hauling it all back a few weeks later. We've always celebrated Christmas, & it's always been cheerful, warm, & memorable. Even without the extra stuff.
My family didn't always have money for a Christmas tree growing up, so I guess it's never become a "must-have" for me. If it works for us, we put one up. If it doesn't, we don't.
I don't always put a tree
I don't always put a tree up...don't really care for Christmas. My kids still enjoyed the holidays though..and tease me for being a Scrooge. Each kid has a 4ft tree for their room and their own ornaments...I don't feel the need for a big tree and it's hassle. Dh insisted this year..bought it..put it up and decorated it. Fair compromise, imo.
We bought a garden picket
We bought a garden picket fence, dh put hinges on it, and painted it a pretty deep red. It stands in around our tree. This stops our dog from attacking the ornaments and gifts. It works very well and is short enough that it does not hide the bottom ornaments.
