Opinions of appropriate bedtime for 6th grader
Ss11 will be starting junior high next week. While in elementary school his bedtime was 8pm on school nights (we got up at 6am) and 9pm on weekends that he didn't get a note home in his behavior folder (bad behavior resulted in an 8pm bedtime all weekend)
Now that he is starting junior high I am wondering g if we should bump his bedtime back some. He will be getting up by 6:45a...possibly earlier if he cant be trusted to get ready without supervision (dh will be leaving for work around 645).
What is an appropriate bedtime for his age?

I can't tell you. I had a
I can't tell you. I had a bedtime of 8 until I was in like 8th grade. Mainly because my sister, 3 yrs younger, didn't like to go to bed alone & my parents were too chicken to tell her to suck it up. We shared a room. Some nights they would let me go back downstairs after she fell asleep. She found out & started feeling guilty & saying "You can just go downstairs"
It made me sad, & my sister & I are close so we would just stay up & whisper for an hour or so until we both fell asleep.
In conclusion, my parents weren't good at bedtimes. Lol.
I was always upset that my bedtime was 8, though, because my friends had 9 or 9:30.
SD is going into 6th grade as
SD is going into 6th grade as well, but still elementary school. DH and I haven't discussed a new bedtime for her. Her bedtime has always been 915-ish during the school year.
BD13\SD13 bedtime is 830,
BD13\SD13 bedtime is 830, lights out by 9. 830 means they are upstairs in their PJs and not to come down the stairs. They can read or watch netflix or whatever until 9 but then its lights out.
BD9\SS8 bedtime is 800, lights out by 830.
I just Googled how much sleep
I just Googled how much sleep do kids need. (What did we do before google? LOL!) And according to webmd kids 9-12 need 10-11 hrs sleep per day. So I guess 8pm is still good. But he probably won't want to go to bed that early. Maybe you can try 9 and see how he does with that?
I know logically he probably
I know logically he probably should have a later bedtime....but I selfishly don't want to be dealing with him later into my "alone" time.
I relish the time between 8 when the kids go to bed and 10 when i typically fall out.
Maybe I will say bed at 830 but in his room reading by 8?
I think you should keep the
I think you should keep the bed time the same.
Kids entering Junior High actually NEED MORE sleep than they did when they were younger because their bodies are growing.
My boyfriend told his kids
"I am an adult and I CAN stay up as late as I want, but I don't because it is not responsible to. Age has nothing to do with the AMOUNT of sleep your body NEEDS."
