OT-I joined a new group
For something totally different. But I was comfortable enough to try a new online community because of you guys<3
I have HS, an autoimmune disease that effects your skin. I'd encourage you to google it, but I wouldn't look up images if you are squeamish. Anyway, I was diagnosed with HS in 2015. When they say the doctors know nothing about this disease, they mean NOTHING. After lots of research and reading endless books, I've switched to a paleo diet. There is a specific autoimmune protocol that I intend to follow, but first I'm going to work on getting used to cooking with ingredients outside of what I normally cook, and then sifting out the stuff outlawed on AIP. This group is for all of that.
But today when I joined the group, I thought to myself-I don't know if I would have joined if it weren't for Steptalk being as helpful and as reliable as it has been in this last year.

Yay!
I strongly encourage you to read/follow paleo mom! She's Sarah Ballantyne. I have 2 books. The paleo approach: reverse autoimmune disease & heal your body and the cookbook. I'm strictly AIP right now.
I will be sure to do that!
I will be sure to do that! Thanks!
Sometimes it itches. Right
Sometimes it itches. Right before the leison opens up. Unfortunately there isn't much treatment for it-the docs usually prescribe antibiotics (even though it's not caused by bacteria), they give you creams and washes but I have yet to hear of one that worked long term. Surgery is possible but again, long term results are almost unheard of. My case is quite mild compared to google images, but I have a leison on the front of my thigh right now that has had me on the couch for 2 days. HS iis most likely genetic and many believe auto immune in nature. I have heard success stories about people who fixed their guy fora that had longer-term results with longer periods of no flare ups.

And the wiki page on HS is laughable. I am not obese by any stretch of the imagination. I'm a little gummy in the midsection from having a baby. There are also corticosteroid shots but they're only to help with pain.

AIP really, honestly isn't hard, to me, anyway. I don't feel restricted. Eggs was a little tough at first. But there are soooòoooooo many other choices! I'm never hungry.
Don't get yourself freaked out about it

So glad you posted this. I am currently looking into ketogenic & paleo due to an auto-immune disorder affecting my skin (bad eczema) which I'm reading can be helped by changing my diet, reducing stress levels (thank you SS17), and adressing any hormonal imbalances (thank you menopause). I have an appointment next week that I'm excited about!

I thought I had IBS and the keto diet cured it completely. I was just trying to lose a few pounds and now I feel human again.
I hope you can get some relief!
Oh - except watch out for "sugar-free" stuff. It's just chemicals. I ate a sugar free piece of candy and it contained maltitol which made me vomit for 9 hours straight. It was awful. I usually just try to stick to whole foods like meat and veggies but I saw that candy and thought, "what the heck," omigosh. It was awful.
My sister has HS. Her doctor
My sister has HS. Her doctor tested her vitamin D levels as apparently low vitamin D levels can cause flare ups. Sure enough her levels were low and she started to take 5000IU of vitamin D daily. My sister hasn't had a flare up at all since she has been taking the vitamin D. I don't know if your doctor already tested your vitamin D levels or if it works as well for everyone as it did for my sister. However, I thought I'd share her experience in case you find it helpful.
