SD's friend is worth ten of her, why can't some of that rub off

SD19 has a friend Dh has always liked, and he really encouraged their friendship (to the point of going overboard in my opinion, but whatever). SD and friend are going to the same college, but friend is SO much more ambitious and driven. Friend works hard and gets all As at college. Friend within a week of school ending for the summer had not one but two jobs. Friend is nicer to my two BDs than SD is.

Well, friend gave DH a card addressed to "the [my last name] family." In it was a gift card to a home improvement store with a note saying she hoped it would help us just a bit in our move to our new home. How sweet is that?! Here's this struggling college kid working two jobs and she takes the time and some of her hard-earned money to acknowledge us. AND she didn't leave me out!

First, SD19 would NEVER give us a gift for ANYTHING. And second, if she did she would sure as hell deliberately leave me out of the gift and address it ONLY to DH.

Why can't her friend's decency and good manners rub off on SD19? I'm still waiting, but they have been friends for like 10 years so I'm thinking if anything like that was going to happen, it already would have.

Makes you sd to kinda look at other kids and wonder...what the heck happened?

It probably depends on how this friend was raised. Skids REALLY lay it on thick with the "poor me" crap and can never quite get past it.

My SD is also 19 and we have a large array of problems. NOt having many friends is also one of them. However, my SD was sent to her moms this summer and now has 2 jobs. She is FINALLY seeing what it is like to work all day and be expected to pay for things that you need.

Good luck! 19 year olds SUCK!!!!!!
