It's my birthday so lets give sd attention

Doorsy's picture

So yesterday was my birthday, Yea me right? Dh and I took the day off since Saturday sd has a colorguard event that dh will be gone to. We sleep in and start getting it on for birthday lovings and as soon as we are done dhs phone starts blowing up. Sd is having bad chest pain. Her chest hurts and it feels like she is being stabbed in the chest. The school nurse calls and before he can hang up the school social worker is calling him. The social worker was wanting to know if sd had health insurance and offering information for her to be seen without it. We have insurance so dh told her thanks but no thanks. She asked how long till dh can get to the school and he said he needs to talk to sd first to make sure she even needs to come home. The social worker told him that both the nurse and her felt out of their comfort zone and they were concerned about her chest pain, and that if dh didn't come get sd then they would call an ambulance. SO dh went to the school without even talking to sd and was met by the nurse, vice principal (who came to see what the commotion was all about)and the social worker. He said sd was hunched over and her face was red. Gee I wonder why...... Anyway he took her to the pediatrician as a walk in which took 2 hours and when the dr saw her, she was concerned since sd had scabs on her knees from where she wrecked her bike 2 days before. The dr sent dh to the local hospital (normal for blood work and x rays since their office doesn't do them and it is part of the office visit co-pay) that took 2 hours. Her chest x-rays and ribs were A OKAY! I could have told them that but the dr was still concerned so she sent dh and sd to the pediatric cardiologist. They arranged a same day appointment at 3. I told dh this wasn't necessary but what do I know. They stayed there till 6:30 running all kinds of test on her. Results are in. Growing pains. Her rib cage is expanding. Yes folks. Multiple dr visits and thousands of dollars in insurance money spent for GROWING PAINS!!! Since the dr was on the other side of town they didn't get home will after 8. Happy fracking birthday to me!

Similar thing with my YSD. She ended up with 4k in medical tests for growing pains.

The stupid Dr thought she heard a veinous hum in her chest and was worried about a heart defect.

In a girl who was 100% active and healthy and good color and was an energizer bunny of a girl.

What the girl did have was a love of the attention and she complained about a lot of aches and pains. Her mother also had a bit of the Munchhausen by proxy because taking care of her "ill" daughter gave her a chance to polish up that MOTY trophy.

I told her that if she was that bad at 9.. or whatever.. she was going to be a cripple in a wheelchair by 25..lol.

Yeah.. Growing pains... ugh.

Nope.. it wasn't any special day(s) that i recall.

I don't think she did it for any other reason than she always was griping and whining about her aches and pains because it got her attention.

I'm sure a lot of it stemmed from being the youngest and having her parents split with Dad living away with new wife (me) and Mom living with Boyfriend and not paying enough attention to her.

I would agree as would dh if it wasn't A - Her mothers time and B - A county wide competition that would screw her team. Dh is already scheduled to work all day at the event.

My YSD at one point claimed she had a funny bone poking out in her foot when she twisted it "like this". Well.. she got her mom and GM all twirled up about it and she went to the doctor who ended up giving her one of those walking cast braces. No it wasn't broken.. doctor just figured immobilization would help the discomfort.

I took one look at the boot as she came gimping up to us at the wally world and rolled my eyes.

Found a picture on social media the next day of her balancing on a the roof of a toddler ride on toy. on one leg.. yes.. the leg in the "cast".

Showed it to DH.. he agreed... milker.

Don't get me wrong.. I love the girl (now 19) but she definitely can pluck a nerve with her maladies.. which I don't give much attention.

Happy belated birthday...

I would simply tell SD - heart conditions is alarming, no more color guard...

Dh and bm wouldn't allow that. Sd lost much needed weight and made friends so it is good for her.

She knew and she knew we took the day off to spend together. They got home so late that we just went to bed. Dh is usually wonderful but he didn't once say he was sorry or say we would reschedule he just wanted to talk about how scared they were and how lucky we are that sd is okay.

Sorry that happened to you. I have to share my birthdays with Skids. DH says "But they want to celebrate with you" So this year I bought tickets to Medieval Times, bought expensive souvenirs and drank plenty of alcoholic drinks. DH is so cheap he hates "wasting money". And guess who was picked out of the crowd to be the "Queen"? SD! But we actually had a great time.

Hopefully you guys have something planned to makeup for the bad birthday.

Happy Birthday Week!

My SD17 is the consummate Victim (capital V on that one). She does it for attention, to get out of helping out/cleaning her room/doing anything/school/everything. She claims she has asthma, so one weekend SO had her mow the lawn that was dry and dusty on a hot summer afternoon. No asthma attack!!!! No sucking on the inhaler!!!! Gosh its a miracle I tell you!

Then there is the "heart murmur" something-I-cant remember syndrome (that oddly enough BM seems to have as well) that is super rare and needs life-time medical treatment.

Then there is the anxiety, which she takes antidepressants for. SO one day had her clean her pigsty of a room, standing over her and being a little harsh in my opinion. She cried and screamed and yelled "Im trying". But no fainting, or permanent damage or hospital visit. BM must like hospitals because SD17 has been to so many ER visits and Doctors its sick. HAH.

Oh and lets not forget when the girl has her period - that's a major medical event as well, every month.

Yeah, don't we LOVE Princess Snowflake Victims? Just Love Love Love them. To pieces.

OMG, my SD developed "sports induced asthma" when they made her run at cheer practice. Now she has an "emergency inhaler" she has to take everywhere with her. I'm always amazed at this diagnosis seeing as I watch her jump on the trampoline for HOURS at our house and run around our back yard and NEVER have any difficult breathing!

I actually started documenting in my planner every time she was "hurt" at cheer for my own personal amusement b/c she has mommy convinced every time that she is really hurt. After so many incidents I told SO that maybe she shouldn't do cheer or gymnastics anymore b/c she is ALWAYS hurt.

Thankfully she is on BMs insurance and she must have good insurance or something b/c she takes her for EVERYTHING! No way would I be paying for all those co-pays and visits to find out she has a deep bruise or muscle strain (actual diagnosis) when she was of course claiming her wrist or leg was broken.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only SM dealing with this. Sometimes I feel mean for never believing she is hurt but it happens so often!!!!

SS makes himself puke when he wants attention or to get out of anything.

SD gets an upset stomach (and gets sent home from school on the regular.

These behaviors get them lots of attention from BM, but not so much at our house. It just makes me question when they're actually sick. SD had strep at Christmas time, and I was convinced it was just more attention-seeking BS.

Sorry your birthday got wrecked and that your DH was a tool about it. He should be kissing your hind quarter for what went down.

LOL, the "Strep" ailment. yep, SD17 was home with BM for an entire week on that excuse. And guess what? One day they went to the mall, because BM wanted to "do something fun with her girls".
That made me want to yak.
(and this was before SD17 was BANNED from malls/JCPenny for shoplifting a few months ago)
