Disgusting Hygiene...

Just another thing that I have to vent about because I just don't get this at all...Step Brat (age 12) is all picky about her clothes and how her hair is styled...(IE..not liking the shoes purchased for the recital or the shirt that I pulled out of my closet to let her try on for said recital.) And she is real big into having accessories ect. However, what I don't get is that she is so concerned about her clothing and her hair "looking retarded". Yet, her hair is greasy as hell. She has over whelming and putrid BO...With out perscribed facial cleanser and ointment her entire forehead, face, chest, and shoulders are totally covered in disgusting zits and pustuals..And I do mean covered...Yet, none of that bothers her..

She has the expensive exon valdeze fighting shampoo...(That crap could be dumbed into the ocean or lake to fight an oil spill!) She has the high powered pit sauce and good body spray..And she has both the facial cleanser and ointment..There is NO REASON for her to look greasy, zitty, or to stink! Yet, she uses none of the above daily or regularly...So she looks and smells like a homeless person...I mean her BO can stink up an entire room and it lingers after she has left the room..It's so strong that it can flip the gag reflex...And I can always tell when she isn't using her facial ointment because she turns into pizza face and then she will try to lye and say she has been using it..Ummm...talk about having liar written on your forehead!! LOL..

WHen she uses the facial stuff and dawn grease fighting shampoo..Her hair is nice and clean and her face is totally clear..When she uses the pit sause at least her "fragrence" doesn't reach her destination 10 minutes before her arm pits do...I don't get this at all..And I find myself suprised that the kids at school don't tease her about it or say something to her!!! When I was 12 years old my hygiene was a huge deal to me...I always kept myself clean, smelling good, and my face zit free! Why is she so disgusting about her hygiene if she is so concerned about her clothes and hair style?? Yesterday, she came to her dad wanting a new hair style with "streaks" in the front..It's a high maintanence hair style that won't work with her baby fine hair and she won't put the styling into it that it needs..And their is no reason that a 12 year old needs "streaks" or hair dye in her hair at all...

DH wants to let her get it done..To the tune of 80 euro (120 american dollars) in the salon...Why pay that kind of money for a hair due on a 12 year old???? Especially a 12 year old that won't even take decent enough care of her hair to keep it grease free???

I don't get it....

I agree, 8 years old is way too early for braces. My teeth were horribly crooked and I begged for years to have braces, but my parents didn't let me get them until I was 15. I am glad they made me wait for a couple of reasons. One, I had wanted them for so long that I appreciated them much more. Two, I was old enough to take care of my teeth myself without being prompted (did you use your christmas-tree brush? Don't forget to wear your retainer...). I believe that my maturity and careful care about my braces was what sped along the process and I only had to wear them for a year and a half. I couldn't imagine the cavities that SS would get if we put him in braces now, and he's 10.

I think part of it is just a "kid" thing, but also I think that part of it has a bit to do with how the child is raised. I'm not saying that you have contributed to this behavior by any means! But I think sometimes kids, especially kids of divorce, are led to expect to be given things and taken care of without any effort on their part. So then, anything which requires effort becomes something they don't really care much about (or sometimes get aggravated when requested or told to do).

SS does the exact same thing, except he doesn't even care how his clothes look. He doesn't care if his hair or teeth are brushed. SS has very thick hair that is a little long, and if he doesn't brush it, it looks really bad. There have been times where we have told him to go get dressed for bed and he will come back out with jeans and a sweatshirt on. It's like he doesn't even care enough to think about what clothes are appropriate for the occasion.

Now granted, SS is a good kid (though he's becoming less and less of a good kid the longer time goes on) and when told to go back and brush his teeth again because he didn't do it good enough or comb his hair, he will do it, though begrudgingly. Sometimes I wonder why it takes kids so long to figure out that if they just did it right the first time, they could get back to playing or reading or doing whatever it is they were in such a hurry to do, instead of being told to go back and do it again (and do it right this time).

I have the same hygiene issue with FSS 12. He stinks so bad that I have to roll down the window in the car even though it 12 degrees outside, I have started putting a sheet on the sofa (god forbid he sleep in a bed) because his odor sticks to the fabric of the cushion.
and teeth forgitabotit high yellow they are disgusting I can not even imagine what his breath must smell like.
FH is clueless.

We had the same problem with sd and still do a lot of the time. When we first got married I tried to talk to sd and H about it but he kept blowing me off. Then when we moved from NC to TN we had to live in an apartment for a while, until we could find a house we both agreed on. Anyway this place had wall heaters and the manager sent a crew up to replace the one sd's room. While they we working one came out and tells H that he knew a company who could come clean the carpet in her room. I ask why do we need that. He says that a puppy that isn't housebroken can ruin a carpet and if we had it professionally cleaned we wouldn't loose our security deposit. I laughed so hard I almost peed myself. We didn't have a dog then, her room stunk so bad from body odor and urine that a stranger had to say something. After that H was real strict on her bathing habits. We're still working on the clean hair. I've offered to give her a high and tight but so far no luck. Where in Germany are you? We were there for a while at one of the nuke sites.
