The Wedding
We're married! The civil ceremony was very nice and the reception was wonderful! YAY! As for SD14, it wasn't too bad. She did show up. She "broke up" with the boy she said she was going to bring and her best friend came instead. SS19's girlfriend and her younger sisters were there. The younger siblings are close to SD's age, so they kind of hung out in a teenage posse. SD and the younger sister of SS's girlfriend have now decided that they're a couple. Oh, teenage drama! I wondered if SD would come dressed as a girl or as a boy. The answer was boy. When I first saw her, she was wearing pants and a white undershirt. Fortunately, she at least put on a decent shirt before the guests arrived.
My kids and their spouses worked their tails off to help us get everything ready. This reception was totally DIY. SS also did a bit of running around for us. SD sat on her lazy butt and never lifted a finger. At one point, we were all hurrying to get set up and I asked her to put out a sign by the entrance to the parking lot. She didn't do it. We had paper covering all the tables and we set out boxes of crayons, so our guests could draw or leave messages. She and her little friends got into the crayons and started drawing on the tables an hour before the reception, so I had to put a stop to that. They also started getting into the food and drinks. Had to stop that, too. At the end of the night when we were cleaning up, she and her friends decided to sit and chug juice boxes. They left the pile of boxes sitting on the table. I had to tell them to go throw them away. She seriously just sat there as if she was holding court, while she saw everyone else working around her. I swear, she's the laziest human being I've ever met.
Also, the night before, we had an informal dinner in my daughter's back yard. SD showed up and sulked. She didn't speak to anyone, except her brother and her father. She was in sweat pants and a t-shirt. Her hair looked like it hadn't been washed or brushed for some time. Yes, I said informal, but come on!
Still, I didn't let all of that take up my time and energy. I just enjoyed the wonderful day! And at least she didn't create a big, ugly drama, which she certainly had the potential to do. This evening she is back at our place, but only until Friday (when we leave on our mini-honeymooon). I will remain disengaged. Wish me luck!
