ADD meltdown

We switched SS7 to new meds. At home he's doing awesome, at school not so much. These new meds take time to work, and he's at the tail end of the first stage of starting them.
Yesterday the teacher mentioned he's exceptionally tired lately about 3 hours after taking the medication. We agreed to try to get him to take the medication in the evening as it's 24hours and see if that fixed the problem. Trouble is to do that you have to move back the dosing time each day until you get to the time you want. So today he went to school and had a 3 hour gap in his medications ...

The school called at noon and asked me to come get him ... so now I have a 7-year-old in my office doing school work because he was being too disruptive in school.

it's gonna be a day

Hi Choosing. If you don't mind my asking, what medication is he on? My SS7 has been dx as ADHD for 2 years now and takes meds only while in school and they've worked perfectly. He also goes to a behavioral counselor once a week that seems to be helping his social skills. I have a masters in nursing (im only throwing that in here so you don't think im crazy and know I do have a little credibility :))and if you'd like to private message me I'd love to talk to you and compare stories and maybe I could help!!

I was wondering what med too. We are on our third med and sounds very familiar. We are starting ABA therapy too and I am excited for that.

Luckily for us, we knew what we were dealing with when we started this as nearly every person on my DHs family tree branch has ADHD and well, I am of the school of thought that the oh, idk, drug and alcohol abuse (mostly drugs, well, mostly acid) that BM engage in while pregnant with both children probably also played a huge factor in both of them having "issues", anyway we had a pretty firm handle on what we wanted to try and the doctor agreed and our first medication worked like a charm and we've had no side effects severe, or even minimal. Other than of course BM but this isn't my blog and I shan't hijack it with my drama. His behavioral therapy is only for BMs peace of mind, and our peace of text messages from her but IMHO, it's unnecessary for our situation. I do however, wish anyone that hasn't had our luck the best in their own venture down this path bc I can only imagine the headache, and heartache it must be to try so hard to help your children and everything youre doing some days seems hopeless. Don't give up!!

First meds in gr 1- Ritalin -went ok so switched us to concerts so only one pill. That wore off fast so they tried vyvanse which calmed him but his teacher said stil no focus.
Dr decided to go back to basics and we did Ritalin again starting this past summer. Worked ok at home but teacher said he was becoming unmanageable in school so we went back to the dorcot who said we'd try option three which is starters. The first dose was just about two weeks ago and just 10mg/day. He goes up to 18 on Sunday night and then two weeks later to 25 for four weeks. We knew that for the first two weeks it would be like he wasn't on anything as it takes time to build and the teachers were warned but today they said he was wild beyond what they've seen.
Part of that is his aunt is visiting and he was excited to see her. Once it was him and me one on one he did his work with lots of handholding.
I'm really hoping that once he gets the right dose wel'll see a change. We tried behavioral therapy but we are in a rural area and I don't know if it's quite what we expected. She said at the end we were doing all the right things and it would just come eventually. My hubby was the same way when he was a child until it clicked at 12 so only 4 years and two months to go!
He's also got a very "look at me" personality so it's hard to tell sometimes how much is add and how much is just knowing that a specific behavior got him 1:1 time ...
