You Can't Make This Stuff Up!

thinkthrice's picture

I am homebound because of shoulder surgery so I was doing a bit of social media snooping.  Come to find out that the Girhippo is no longer working for the foster home as a foster parent counselor; she is now working for the local VA!

She and her electrical engineer husband, StepDaddyBigBucks, went on social media for advice on how to operate a solar light purchased at a local grocery store!  Between the two geniuses, they could not figure it.

Turns out they had to remove the shipping/activation strip from the battery.

The Good MIL

thinkthrice's picture

I should preface this by saying I am a MIL twice over.  Both to my son-in-law and daughter-in-law.  I also know what it's like to have a pushy mother-in-law.  My first husband's mother who was an alpha type personality and "wore the pants in the family"  seemed to always have an opinion on everything.

I think she tried hard not to come over as pushy but it was just beyond her scope.

She did a few things behind my back that I did not appreciate as well.

And We Have a New WINNER (Loser)!!!

The HousesHitter (YSS18) has had no less than sixty-two, that's right 62, unexcused LATES/TARDIES and thirty-four, yep count 'em, 34 absent/truants this school year with three weeks left to go!  He is usually 2 to 4 hours late EVERY DAY or missing entirely.  Despite this, he is still allowed extra curriculars such as lacrosse.

Way to go, MOTY Girhippo!!!

And yet they will graduate him.

O/T My Butt Is Killing Me

From being foolish enough to let my front garden which is 30' X 30' go for a year while doing rennos on our first duplex.   I weeded for 8 hours straight.   I literally had to replant a blueberry and azalea bush to get the weeds out!

Today I added some more black plastic mulch.  We live surrounded by dairy farms so the weeds are horrendous.   That and the prolific non native invasive plants such as autumn olive.  Arrgh!!

O/T It's Asparagus Time Again

I have a 20' by 4' asparagus patch with established asparagus (OMG the WEEDING!).  Any way, any asparagus recipes out there?  I prepare them the way Jacque Pepin does them (asparagus with foaming butter) but am open to new ideas.  I have frozen them in the past after briefly blanching for soup and the like.  And of course the old standby, hollandaise sauce...

Poor Kitty

The Animal Torturer (SD 22.5) got another cat.  The old one got (ran) away... good for that kitty.  This poor kitty looks frightened or like it has been teased.   I feel bad for it because it will be neglected or abused with the Animal Torturer as it's owner.  Can't even say "pet parent."  She superimposed another photo of kitty with her very overweight self drinking a soft drink.  Lovely.   Oh wait, it was a dinner out with the Girhippo and StepDaddyBigBucks thus the photo of the soft drink slurping.

Despite Truancy, Failing Grades and Not Enough Credits Earned to Graduate

The HousesHitter is allowed to play lacrosse.  Just saw a fresh new photo of the HousesHitter (YSS 18) standing in uniform on the field flanked (for real) by Battleaxe Galatica (BM's BM) and the Girhippo (BM) on social media.  The Gir is proudly holding a bouquet of flowers.

Yes this is his Senior year but he has failed 11th grade English as well as 12th grade Math, Science and Global Studies.  I think he's done one "credit recovery" class and eight of them are outstanding.

Two More Paper Tiger Letters From School

thinkthrice's picture

Actually three pretty much right in a row.  First a warning letter saying that the HousesHitter (YSS 18)  has been late every day at least an hour to two hours in the morning or altogether absent.

Second letter included his grades which all are graded on a 0 to 100 scale apparently.  Even with an EAP, 55 is passing which is 10 points below non-EAP.   All of his grades are between 19 and 28.  He is even slacking in Varsity chorus!  Being a musical genius, he scored a 75 in piano.   Being athletic, he scored a 65 in PE.  Sarcasm tags OFF.

Well It Wasn't THAT Bad...

Got to see my baby granddaughter.  She is a cutie (aren't all babies for the most part?)  I'm not really the overly obsessed maternal type.  In fact I like them when they are older and you can teach them things but I held her and rocked her.

Chef did launch into some "when the ferals were babies" stories but kept it brief. He did, however, try to "correct" my rocking technique!

Give Me Strength

We are on our way to see my granddaughter for the first time.   I'm sure Chef will start to recount stories about the long estranged ferals when they were babies....  Argh!

Chef, in his mind, is a parenting expert, doncha know although he has never non-parented a child past the age of 11. OSS PASed out at 11.
