So what else is knew

BM is a manipulative, lying bitch. Yeah, we know. Thanks for the heads up.

BM has started talking to BIL on the phone all the time, and made BIL believe that DH is paying based on a part time job, and not the full time salary that part time had turned into.

Some Confusion In My Last Blog

I think it's important to revisit the CO and check if you have language upon the death of the CS payor. If not, at least in NY, IN, and IL, CS payments continue against the late payor's estate. Most people have a life insurance payout to cover whatever is left over and the scary thing is, the CS order can be modified AFTER death.

"It's unfortunate when a parent who was charged with paying child support dies. However, the obligation to support a child does not die with the parent."

Legal Help: Death

Ugh, this is giving me a headache and I want to be sure I understand this because we are a fuck-up of cross-state mess: BM and SS live in Indiana, the support order was, and is maintained in/under Illinois jurisdiction, DH and I live in NY.

Okay, so my questions are based on the hypothetical event that DH passes away before SS turns 18 (as per IL's order, 19 if it gets modified to an IN order) and based on these factors:

After Having Your Own...

You ever feel like you can "get" why parents do the things they do (even to the detriment of the child)? And that if you ever divorced, your kid is going to drive their new step crazy because there are habits that are okay to you but you know it's only because you're their parent?

This is HILARIOUS

The other day I was picking BD up at MIL's house, and MIL wanted to show me a dress she got for BD in the kids room. Now, to recap, MIL sends stuff to SS to try and maintain a relationship, sometimes at the expense of DH (she, among other things, took DH's ukelele to ship off--given to him by a good friend--from his apartment--literally, she sneaked into his apartment and looked for things she could give so she could pretend they have a relationship--and he flipped when he found out, to the point where she had to unbox the thing to give it back to him.)

Don't Know How They Do It

Easter with DH's family is always an eye opener for me, for just how a blended family who is on really, really good terms COULD work.

His female cousin has three sons, was divorced, and is remarried. Her middle son and his wife hosted the get together this year, and as always, the entire family is there, including the ex husband's father, so (exFIL has joined the mix too), having a grand old time.

OT What's in your emergency kit?

not2sureimsaneanymore's picture

I'm setting up an emergency kit as a just in case because Hurricane Sandy and that Noreaster scared me (we were without power for 10 days, no electricity, no heat, no hot water--we are oil fuel out on Long Island) and we ended up cooking by barbecue for a couple of days because our stove is electric.

So far my kit looks like an apocalypse/zombie survival kit....

I have:

OT Electric/Gas Bill

not2sureimsaneanymore's picture

Does this sound right to you? I rent out one of my houses and this month, Coned charged me $950 for gas and electricity. WTF?!?!

I called them and they said that was right, the meter reads double what I had last January.

Last Jan, my tenants had the heat blasting and the front door OPEN and it only cost me $450. I'm going to the house Monday to check the meter myself.

I pay for utilities so that's why this freaks me out.

Self Sufficiency--Perennial Veggie Garden

not2sureimsaneanymore's picture

I know a lot of us are always trying to save money, and I'm the queen of saving in my family so, to step up my game, I'm turning my entire backyard into an edible landscape with only perennial veggies. No grass for me!

(Not to mention edible weeds like dandelion salads!)

Here's my list. I'm in zone 7 (NY) so it gets cold. My yard is thankfully directly south facing and I'm ripping up all the unnecessary bushes. (Only three or so, so it's not that hard.)

This includes both shade loving undergrowth, shade loving ground cover, and sun loving plants.

On the topic of energy saving...

Anyone use the plug and play type solar panels? If you have, did you find it worth it? Does it work in a blackout?

I've been thinking about getting one, and an electric generator. So that I can offset my bills each month but also have it charge the generator in the event of a blackout BUT I'm not sure if it's worth it.
