What can we do about this?

DH has a lot of things in his name that ex has possession of that according to the divorce decree are her responsibility to pay and she is supposed to get out of his name. But she doesn't. What can DH do? The companies don't care about the decree, because his name is on it. I guess we could take her to court, but you can't get blood from a stone. Anyone been in a similar situation?

And yes, it was stupid of DH to get himself in this situation in the first place, but that is water under the bridge now.

I was in a similar situation with a vehicle I had with my ex. He kept the vehicle but never made the payments or paid the insurance or personal property taxes on it.

I only discovered this when I went to renew the registration on MY vehicle & the DMV wouldn't let me until I took care of the lapse of insurance & paid up the personal property on his.

I spoke with lawyers, loan companies, the insurance company, etc only to be told that it was in my best interest to verify he'd paid these things & if he hadn't, to pay them myself.

It sucked, but there was no other option.

Same thing happened to my DH there was a credit card in his name that he "so thoughtfully" gave her during the divorce to help her set up her apartment. She charged over $7K and then didnt pay it. When WE went to build our new home we had to pay it off to get the mortgage and save his credit...

It was in the decree that is was her responsibility but Discover didnt care - they just want their money. Needless to say she has not paid us one penny and it has been about 6 yrs. She said "I never asked you to pay it off"....but they were ready to take DH to court so we didnt have a choice!

Even our lawyer said it was a dumb move to give her the cc but that there was nothing we could really do...

My SO's ex got their house in the divorce, which was in both of their names. She sat in it for 18 months without paying the mortgage, refused to sign docs needed for a modification that he worked out with the bank, and it ended up being foreclosed. The house we just purchased is in my name only, since his credit is destroyed. Now I have two houses and my debt to income ratio is maxed out. Luckily I'll have my old house paid off in a year or two. Hopefully my car holds out that long!
